Welcome to the next in our series of Stepney Stars where we celebrate some of wonderful young people who have some incredible success stories to tell. Today, it’s the turn of Becky Palmer.
I’m sure you all know Becky who is currently working in our office at the stables as our Customer Support Officer. Truth is, Becky knows much of Stepney inside out, so you might have seen her on the yard, teaching or riding our lovely ponies. We’re so proud that Becky has worked hard to progress from her early days at Stepney to becoming a member of staff and achieving so much more too! I’ll let her tell you more:-
Hello my name is Becky and I started riding at Stepney Bank Stables when I was just 7 years old. I then started Funky Fools (a club within Stepney that ran at the time) and became a Junior Volunteer at the age of 8.
Throughout my time here, I have learnt so many beneficial life skills and have received amazing opportunities and gained qualifications along the way. All of these leadership and essential skills I learnt at Stepney I use now in everyday life.
When I was 15, I started working weekends at Stepney supporting our young Club Members in between my school studies and then, at 17, I was successful in applying to become an apprentice working in reception for my Customer Service & Business qualification. In this role, what I enjoy the most is being on the frontline and meeting each customer and getting to know them individually.
Alongside my apprenticeship, I run my own business called BeckyDoesVintage, I sell vintage clothing online and use social media platforms to advocate the slow fashion movement. I am very excited for the next 12 months as I have many goals to reach, such as reaching 1000 sales, becoming a verified blue tick seller, multiple collaborations with other sellers, magazines etc, gaining my customer service qualification, turning 18 and growing my business even further! My biggest supporters in my life so far would have to be my parents who have helped to support me and my business.
If I could give my 10 year old self any advice it would be to just “Go for it” go out there and take every opportunity you can!
Wow, Becky! You’ve done a brilliant job in taking all you have learned, including your own advice of ‘go for it!’ to get where you are. You’re an excellent role model for all of our riders and Club Members! We wish you every success with your business and, of course, thank you for everything you do to help and support all of the Club Members, customers and staff at the stables.
If you know someone who would like to feature as one of our Stepney Stars, get in touch with us to share your story!
