Horses have a very strong appeal to young people but because of the nature of the work this could potentially be a high risk environment without the high level of supervision training and support that we provide.
This project allows youngsters to spend all day here whilst making a valuable contribution to their community.
Applicants need to be 13 years old or over and can apply to help out; weekends, evenings or school holidays. A reference from a school or other organisation will be required. There is no charge for attending.
Alongside the mucking out and caring for the horses there are also many opportunities to get involved with the numerous trips, visits and special events that the Stables are involved in.
And if those weren't enough reasons to come along and get stuck in there is also the many other hidden benefits to spending time at Stepney!
Examples of the improvements witnessed by parents and carers of those that get involved is evident by:
- Improved likelihood of further training or employment (Indeed many ex-child members now work for us!)
- Enhanced interpersonal and transferable skills
- Personal and social development of our users
- Increased confidence and self-esteem.
- Improved social well-being and community involvement
- Changing attitudes and behaviour to learning
